Setting up two-factor authentication

2 min read·1 views·100% found this helpful

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second step to sign-in, so your G8KEPR account stays protected even if your password is exposed. You can enroll using an authenticator app (TOTP) or SMS, and you'll save one-time recovery codes as a backup.

Before you start

  • You'll need access to your account Settings and either an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, 1Password, or Authy) or a phone that can receive SMS.
  • You may be asked to re-enter your password to confirm the change.

Authenticator apps (TOTP) are more reliable and more secure than SMS, since codes are generated on your device and don't depend on cellular delivery. We recommend TOTP where possible.

Enroll with an authenticator app (TOTP)

  1. 1.Go to Settings → Two-Factor Auth.
  2. 2.Choose Authenticator app and select Enable.
  3. 3.Scan the on-screen QR code with your authenticator app. If you can't scan, enter the setup key shown beneath the code manually.
  4. 4.Your app will start generating a rotating 6-digit code. Enter the current code to confirm and finish enrollment.

Once confirmed, you'll be prompted for a fresh code from your app at each new sign-in.

Enroll with SMS

  1. 1.Go to Settings → Two-Factor Auth.
  2. 2.Choose Text message (SMS) and select Enable.
  3. 3.Enter your mobile number in full international format, for example +1 555 010 1234.
  4. 4.We'll send a verification code by text. Enter it to confirm the number and finish enrollment.

Codes are time-sensitive. If a code doesn't arrive within a minute, request a new one rather than reusing an old message.

Save your recovery codes

When you enable 2FA, we generate a set of single-use recovery codes. Use these to sign in if you ever lose access to your app or phone.

  • Copy the codes and store them somewhere safe, such as a password manager or an offline backup.
  • Each code works once. Cross them off as you use them.
  • You can regenerate a new set anytime from Settings → Two-Factor Auth, which invalidates the old codes.

If you lose both your second factor and your recovery codes, you may be locked out of your account. Keep your recovery codes somewhere you can reach without signing in.

Managing or turning off 2FA

Return to Settings → Two-Factor Auth to switch methods, update your phone number, regenerate recovery codes, or disable 2FA. For account-wide requirements, see Managing your account security.
